We walk because we must.
We are strong because the journey demands it.

I saw cancer steal my mother and make me an orphan when I was barely old enough to fend for myself in the world. I have seen cancer decimate individuals and devastate families. I have had cancer invade my body and change my life.  Cancer is an evil that must be stopped!

In 2022 I celebrated both a big birthday that had me questioning my ability to continue walking in the 3-Day and my retirement, which allows me to travel to 3-Day destinations anytime I want.  Ultimately, both circumstances were refreshingly freeing, and my resolve to continue walking as long as my legs (and sweep vans) can carry me has not only been renewed but also strengthened.  I am inspired by spry walkers older than me who can walk circles around me and motivated by the continuing need to end this evil disease that has affected far too many of my friends.

The 3-Day is much more than simply a walk; for me the 3-Day is a state of mind and my purpose in life. The 3-Day has had as much a part in saving me as any part of the medical community did. The love, kindness, caring, and respect that the 3-Day embodies has become a way of life. The people who have come into my life through this event have become family. For more than seventeen years, not a day has gone by when I have not thought about the 3-Day and the fight against all cancers. It is what I do and who I am. I am determined to maintain a steady path on the road to a cure for as long as I can and as long as I must.

The 3-Day is fueled by your dollars and by the commitment of a dedicated group of individuals united in a common cause. For me, the 3-Day provides an extraordinary bubble of love and kindness – and never fails to recharge my cancer-fighting superpowers.

That’s why I’m walking and why I’m raising money – to end breast cancer forever.
