It had been 13 years since I walked in 3-Day with the Pink Butterflies, but in September 2023, I participated in my 2nd walk. Although I trained hard and enjoyed the sites walking with my daughter Peri, blisters kept me from completing the last 6 miles. I am determined to complete the route in Denver 2024, while raising funds to find a cure for breast cancer as a Pink Butterfly!
Everyone has come in contact with, had a relative, or a friend who was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. We are lucky that we know more about the disease due to research and early detection. This was the case for both my mother, Marian, my sister-in-law, Megan and the many people I met while walking in the 3-Day in September 2023. The stories' of survivors are amazing, touching and encouraging. However, not everyone is fortunate enough to beat the disease like my husband's cousin Carol. She was diagnosed when she was 40 years old and passed before turning 42, leaving behind a husband and 2 young children. Carol and I had a great connection...we shared the same birthday and we were both teachers. She was a creative, funny person who had a zest for life. I will walk for her and the countless others who have lost their battle with breast cancer as well as those who are still fighting the disease.
Please support me as I commit to an incredible challenge; the Denver 3-Day. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. It will be hard, but it's not as hard as breast cancer. It's not as hard as chemo. It's not as hard as getting bad news at your latest scan. It's not as hard as saying goodbye. And that's why I know I have to do this. That's why I commit. That's why I'm walking and why I'm raising money to end breast cancer forever.
