I commit to walk 60 hard miles.
I commit to 3 days of sweat, hope and tears.
I commit to carry those with me who can't walk themselves.
I commit to end breast cancer, once and for all.
In 2008 I walked my first 3-day. I walked this event with my mother in memory of her mother, my Grandma Janet. I never had the chance to meet my grandmother; she passed from breast cancer when she was only 44.
In 2011 I walked my second 3-day. I walked this event in honor and in memory of those I had met and those whose stories had been shared with me during the first walk. Each name was carried with me every single mile.
In September of 2023 I will be walking in my third 3-day. Earlier in the year my daughter’s teacher was diagnosed with breast cancer. This year I lay down my footsteps for our sons and daughters.
I have had five women in my family who have been diagnosed over the years with breast cancer. I’ve known three women this year who have had to face this diagnosis.
Every two minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer.
I just can’t continue to sit by and watch.
If you'd like to donate... great.
If you'd like me to walk for someone... tell me.
If you want to join me... fantastic... let's do this.
At the end of each 3-day, the survivors who have walked file through the crowd in their pink shirts. It is at this point that the near one thousand walkers surrounding them remove and raise a shoe in honor of them. It is an emotional moment and a testimony as to why we all come together.
"We walk because we must. We are strong because the journey demands it. Together in body and united in spirit, we lay down our footsteps for this generation and the next. This is our promise - a world without breast cancer."
