Since 2016, I’ve had the privilege of participating in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day, an event that has become so much more than just a challenge—it’s a personal mission. When I first accepted my friend’s dare to walk 60 miles in three days, I had no idea how much this cause would mean to me. It’s been eight years, 11 events, and over 660 miles, but more importantly, it’s been countless lives touched and a fight that I am dedicated to continuing.
In 2017, something extraordinary happened. During my walk in San Diego, I met Dylan, who quickly stole my heart. We got married the following year, just two days before the 2018 3-Day event, and since then, we’ve walked side by side, meeting brave survivors who inspire us every step of the way. Each year, we walk for the women and men who have faced breast cancer head-on, some of whom we’ve come to know personally. Their stories remind me why I’m committed to raising $2,300 for each event—to fund life-saving research, support services, and community programs that are making a real difference.
The Susan G. Komen 3-Day isn’t just a walk—it’s a journey of hope. Over three days, participants walk a total of 60 miles, challenging their bodies while raising critical funds to fight breast cancer. The funds raised go toward research for better treatments and, ultimately, a cure. But just as importantly, the money supports community outreach and programs that provide education, screenings, and treatment assistance to those battling this disease. Every step we take and every dollar we raise gets us closer to a world without breast cancer.
As I prepare for my 12th event in San Diego this year, I’m reaching out for your support once again. I am continually humbled by the generosity of my friends and family who have donated over the years. Your contributions have directly impacted the lives of survivors, and I’m asking for your help to continue this fight. Whether you’ve supported me from the beginning or this is your first time, every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference.
Together, we can take one step closer to a cure. Thank you for "walking" with me.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Karla
