In April of 2012 I was a 19 year old college kid, sitting in my dorm room researching the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure in Pittsburgh. It was at that moment the universe sent me on a larger mission. I sat there, looking at the screen, thinking "I can walk 2.5 miles on Mother's Day, or I can walk 60 miles over a random weekend." Obviously, I picked the bigger challenge and signed up for the 2012 Cleveland 3 Day.
August 2012 came around and I was young, naive, and completely oblivious to what walking 60 miles, in Cleveland, in August, can do to the body. The blisters were like nothing I had ever seen. The humidity was unrelenting. I lost toenails, we got shut down for a tornado, and I seriously questioned why I had signed up for this. But I finished. Then, a couple years later I got back at it in Philadelphia. Followed by the San Diego, Chicago and Denver 3 Days. My mission became clear, I started this in memory of my Grandma, but this is about so much more. This is about every mom, grandma, sister, aunt, cousin and friend who has ever been impacted by Breast Cancer. This is about family in every form. By walk #3 in San Diego our team was formed, and ever since, Team Tatas & Tiaras has been walking for a cure.
Please support me as I commit to an incredible challenge. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. It will be hard, but it’s not as hard as breast cancer. It’s not as hard as chemo. It’s not as hard as getting bad news at your latest scan. It’s not as hard as saying goodbye. And that’s why I know I have to do this. That’s why I’m walking and why I’m raising money – to end breast cancer forever.
