Last year, both kids joined us in the fight against breast cancer on the 3-Day Youth Corps in Denver! They worked all weekend supporting the walkers amongst a group of awesome kids aged 10-16. We are looking forward to another event as a family and hope you'll support our journey!
In 2008 I began an incredible challenge. For what, you ask? A world without breast cancer. Every step of that life-changing 60 mile adventure was so extraordinary that I continue to do it again and again, this year being my 14th walk and 21st event! Each year I join hundreds of men and women committed to this battle against a despicable enemy - breast cancer. Every minute, somewhere in the world, someone dies from breast cancer - a sobering statistic and one that I believe we can reduce. Women in the U.S. have a 1 in 8 lifetime risk of a breast cancer diagnosis. One in eight! So many people in our lives have been affected by cancer or know someone whose life has been impacted by a cancer diagnosis. The best way we can make a difference is to raise awareness and funds for necessary research, education and treatment. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. It will be hard, but it’s not as hard as breast cancer. It’s not as hard as chemo. It’s not as hard as getting bad news at your latest scan. It’s not as hard as saying goodbye. And that’s why I know I have to do this. That’s why I commit. That’s why I’m walking and why I’m raising money – to end breast cancer forever.
I dedicate my 60 miles each year to all of my friends and family - those 1 in 8! - and to all the fighters and survivors I've met along the way. We also participate to honor and remember those loved ones who lost the battle, and to commit to a world without breast cancer. Because Everyone Deserves a Lifetime!
