In the days leading into my first 3 day walk, I was terrified that I was going to be around sick people and constant talk about recurrence. So I convinced myself that I'd just walk and stay below the radar. Well, that was impossible, from the moment we walked into the hotel, we were greeted and welcomed into the PINK bubble. I wasn't scared and intimidated any longer, I was inspired. I met so many women, who had their own battles with breast cancer or supported family members and friends during their time of need. We talked about cancer, but more we talked about hope and life and what we are capable of achieving.
Leading into last week, I wasn't really sure I was up for a walk in 2023. Surgeries, medications and side effects, working, and being a mom, I've been feeling a little burnt out. Then came Monday 2/6. I had a chest MRI and bone density scan. The fear of recurrence was starting to consume me, but instead of allowing myself to be absorbed by those demons, I registered for the 3-day walk in Chicago. I'm certain some of my friends and family think I'm crazy - 60 miles is a lot over three days and it's a lot of training, but it's far easier than chemo was! AND after learning yesterday that scans are all clear, I'm ready and committed to do it again!!!!!
With your help, I raised $6,600 last year and I'd love to do it again this year. I want a world without breast cancer. I hope you'll support me in this effort! And - if you're local and you see me walking and want to join me during training, I'd love that too.
so much love,
Natascia
