1. If a participant drops out of the event, what happens to the donations that they have raised?
All donations submitted to the Susan G. Komen 3-Day® are non-transferable and non-refundable. If a participant drops out of the event, their donations cannot be refunded nor can they be transferred to another participant. We hope donors will appreciate supporting Susan G. Komen® regardless of someone’s participation in the actual event.
2. Can I make a donation to a team?
No. You must select an individual team member to donate to, and you cannot make a donation to the entire team. If you are making a donation of $1,000 or more, the team captain may ask us to divide that donation among team members. Please contact the team captain for details.
3. What is a monthly recurring donation?
If you are making a donation online, you can choose to make that donation recur monthly. Each donation must be $25 or more and the recurrence cannot exceed four months. Donations made via mail cannot be made recurring.
4. Can I give stock as a donation?
Yes. The Komen 3-Day accepts donations of stock. Stock donations must be $500 or more in fair market value and publicly traded. For donations of stock with an active market, the fair market value is the average price between highest and lowest selling price on the valuation date. No fees are deducted from the calculation of fair market value. To make a donation of stock to the 3-Day®, please contact 800-996-3DAY (800-996-3329).
5. How does Susan G. Komen utilize the contributions?
Since 2003, the Komen 3-Day has raised more than $875 million—which Komen has used to save lives and make huge strides in breast cancer research.
The funds raised have helped Susan G. Komen®‘s mission to save lives from breast cancer, by investing more than $1 billion in breakthrough research and more than $2.3 billion to support people and communities most at risk through programs to provide access to screening, treatment assistance, patient navigation and education.
6. Where should I mail donation checks?
All donations must have a donation form attached and should be mailed to the address listed on the donation form, which is: Susan G. Komen 3-Day, P.O. Box 660843 Dallas, TX 75266-0843. Please attach only one check to each donation form.
7. Is it necessary to send a separate donation form for each donation?
Yes. In order for a donation to be processed properly it is necessary to send a separate completed donation form with each donation. Our bank will only process one check per donation form.
10. How quickly can I expect a mailed donation to post to a participant’s fundraising account?
Please allow two weeks for any mailed donation to post. If a donation does not post after the two-week timeframe, please contact us at 800-996-3DAY.
13. How do I find a participant’s personal fundraising webpage?
Click on Search for a Participant, and search by their first or last name.
14. Why is the “Donate” search not finding a participant that I know has registered?
Try entering just the first few letters of the participant’s name to get more search results, or just the last name. If you have a problem locating a participant that you are sure has registered, please call us at 800-996-3DAY.
15. How quickly can I expect an online donation to post to a participant’s fundraising account?
Any donation made online should post immediately. If an online donation does not post within 24 hours, please contact us at 800-996-3DAY.
17. Can the 3-Day accept international donations?
Yes. The 3-Day can accept international donations online with a credit card. International donations cannot be accepted through any other method because of processing complications.
18. Do donations made to the 3-Day qualify for tax deductions in other countries?
Donations made to the 3-Day may not qualify for tax deductions in the donor's home country. Please check with a tax professional for country-specific laws.
19. For international donations made online with a credit card, will the amount entered in the 3-Day online donation form be in U.S. dollars?
Yes. For international donations made online with a credit card, the amount entered in the 3-Day online donation form will be in U.S. dollars.
20. Do all donors who mail their donations receive a receipt?
Any donor who mailed their donation and provided an email address will receive a receipt via email once the donation has been processed. Donors without an email address will receive a receipt in the mail if they donate $250 or more.
21. Do all donors who contribute online receive a receipt?
Yes, anyone who donates online, regardless of the amount, will receive a receipt if they supply a valid email address. If you made your donation in installments, you will receive an email receipt each time a monthly payment is processed. Those who donate $250 or more and do not provide an email address will receive a copy of the receipt in the mail.
22. What is the 3-Day’s tax ID number (or EIN number)?
The Susan G. Komen 3-Day is a project managed by Komen. Komen’s tax ID number is 75 1835298. Komen’s EIN number is provided ONLY for the purpose of identifying Komen as a non-profit corporation and/or the 3-Day event as a program benefitting a non-profit corporation. The EIN number may not be used for any other purpose.
23. Can I get a 501(c)(3) letter?
The 501(c)(3) letter is proof that Komen is recognized as a non-profit organization by the federal government. Since the Susan G. Komen 3-Day is a project managed by Komen, this letter is also used as proof that Komen’s non-profit status applies to the 3-Day event. Please call us at 800-996-3DAY if you need a copy of this letter. The 501(c)(3) letter will be provided ONLY when necessary for the purpose of identifying Komen as a non-profit corporation and/or the 3-Day event as a program benefitting a non-profit corporation. If the 501(c)(3) letter is provided to you, you may not use it for any other purpose.
24. Can I get a W-9 form?
The W-9 form is proof that Susan G. Komen is recognized as a non-profit organization by the federal government. Since the Susan G. Komen 3-Day is a project managed by Komen, this form is also used as proof Komen’s non-profit status applies to the 3-Day event. Please call us if you need a copy of Komen’s W-9 form. Komen’s W-9 form will be provided ONLY when necessary for the purpose of identifying Komen as a non-profit corporation and/or the 3-Day event as a program benefitting a non-profit corporation. If the W-9 form is provided to you, you may not use it for any other purpose. Participants may not use the W-9 form to secure donated space or in-kind donations.
25. How do I add a dedication when I make a donation?
When you make a donation online, you can designate what you want to appear as your recognition name on the participant’s Honor Roll. This may be your name, or it could be something such as “From the whole Connor family” or “In memory of Aunt Cathy.” Please note: Our bank cannot process dedications for mailed in donations. To add a dedication to a mailed in donation, please contact us at 800-996-3DAY.
26. Is it secure to enter my credit card information on the 3-Day website?
Yes. We use industry accepted encryption for transmission of credit card information to ensure we keep your information secure. We do not store credit card information in our system, which means it cannot be stolen from us. Our website's donation processing capabilities authorize credit cards in real time, and then immediately discard the card number. Follow-up transactions, including refunds or monthly donations, are processed using one-time reference codes that are tied to the nonprofit's account and useless to a hacker. Card numbers are only stored by the payment gateway, or the system that manages transactions and connects the Internet to banking networks, whose systems are highly secure.
28. How do I enter a company name as the donor name when making a donation?
If you would like the donation to be associated with a company and not an individual, please enter a period "." as the first name, and the company name as the last name when completing the donation form.
