Why is the Race for the Cure® so important to San Diego County? Susan G. Komen San Diego has served low-income, uninsured women for 18 years. In fact, with nearly $2 million at work in San Diego County today, Komen San Diego Continues to be the County’s largest funder of free breast cancer treatments, services and support for uninsured women and their families. With your first step in the Race for the Cure, you are joining in the Komen Difference: Getting diagnosed: We’re the only organization providing uninsured women with access to diagnostics including diagnostic mammograms (women of all ages); biopsies; MRIs/Ultrasounds. Free services for living: We’re the only organization providing a San Diegan with care across the entire spectrum of life: navigation through our complex medical system; meal delivery; temporary financial help for the entire length of her treatment; free surgery and chemotherapy and more. Researching the Causes and the Treatments: Next to the U.S. government, Komen is the largest funder of breast cancer research in the world.
