The Journey Continues in San Diego 2016!
The Twinkle Toes are back at it in 2016 and this year we are headed back to San Diego (YAY!)...
Here we go again! When I started this journey, I knew it would be challenging, I knew it would be costly (shoes, airline tickets, gear, hotel, the list goes on and on), and I knew it would be time consuming (my average walks are 2 - 3 hours)...but I knew in my heart this was something I needed/wanted to do. I had no idea how I was going to raise the required funds to walk or how I was going to afford the needed gear and travel...but with the love and support of my family, friends, and incredible teammates, my goals have become obtainable....and now, here I am at it again...asking you to support and encourage me for the 2016 event...
Did you know that breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer and is the leading cause of cancer death among women worldwide?? I am walking for those who are currently fighting, I am walking in memory of those who have lost their life to the disease, and I am walking to celebrate the lives of the millions of survivors - it is that easy - I walk because I can....and I will keep walking until we eradicate this destructive disease (with big bad blisters and a smile on my face!).
I am walking in remembrance of friends, like Cathey (AKA "Pumpkin")...and in remembrance of family members of friends...and I am walking with Lois, our team captain - she is a best friend, a mentor, an inspiration, and has truly touched my life; my days would not be the same without her friendship, advice, and comfort. She is a nineteen (soon to be twenty) year breast cancer survivor and I am truly thankful every single day that she did not succumb to this dreadful disease. I am honored to walk with/for Lois ("my friend" - see photo)...and for so many other women and men who are bravely fighting/have bravely fought or watched a loved one battle breast cancer.
To participate in the 60-mile 3-Day walk, a participant must raise a minimum of $2,300 - as you can see, I have set my personal goal a bit higher. I hope you will consider making a donation - no matter how big or small, you will DEFINITELY make a difference. Seventy-five percent of the net proceeds raised by the Komen 3-Day help fund national research and large public health outreach programs. The remaining 25 percent will help fund local community and affiliate support and outreach programs.
Please join me by making a donation - I am extremely thankful for your support, love, and encouragement - together we can fight this disease and find a cure...
...and so it continues...my training is ongoing...I'll keep you updated on my progress...
I'm ready (once again) for this incredible journey!
