and honestly, I can't think of a better reason to keep walking than 20 years!!!
I've been blessed...I've been lucky...this is a big milestone for me - BUT I also know a lot of people who haven't been able to make this milestone - and I'm walking for them first and foremost. I'm walking so that 20 years is a no big deal anniversary because breast cancer no longer exists!!!
I wait for the opportunity to purchase my "20 year" pin in Dallas - meandering down some park path, finding my favorite vendor and buying my 20 year pin, making sure it doesn't get lost or fall off my backpack. I wait for the opportunity to spend 2 nights in pink tents with some of the bestest friends a person could have because they are there with me and we share this event every year. I wait to see old friends from years past and make new ones for years coming up and I wait for the incredible responsibility of representing every single donor who believes in me and makes donations that help so many.
It's not all about research as important as that is - it's about helping families and individuals who are experiencing first hand what's it like to deal with breast cancer. it's providing mammograms for those who can't afford them, providing transportation to treatment, help for the children to understand why this is happening to their moms, grandmoms, aunts, cousins - the list of potential victims seems endless.
but most and foremost it's helping those in need know that there is a "walking army" moving thru seven cities raising huge dollar amounts to help them and those that will come after them. It's all about finding the way to make this GO AWAY in our lifetime - and so...i will keep walking - and celebrate my anniversaries as they come.
please join me by making a donation to the cause - big or small - it doesn't matter - every single dollar helps...because
"i am more than pink" and i am grateful for your support!!!
with much appreciation, lois mouriski bear
