Just do it...help make a difference

Let's get it on!

My Aunt Paula was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. She went through chemotherapy and currently has finished her 33rd radiation treatment January 5, 2010.

I want to help make a difference and be a part of the future cure for all men and women that have fought or are fighting cancer.

Please support me as I take an amazing journey, October 2010, in the fight to end breast cancer! The Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. Net proceeds from the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure™ are invested in breast cancer research and community programs.

Come back often and check out updates on training and fundraising efforts through my blog below.

I Believe A Habit Is Forming
My aunt has finished her last radiation which turned out to be bittersweet. She rang the bell on her last day of treatment, but she also walked away with sadness because she came to love her team. She still visits them and will remain friends, at the same time she will share her story and raise awareness and money to help other men and women.
I have snowshoed and walked consistantly. My first snowshoe trip was awesome. I was a little worried keeping up with my husband, but because he lost part of a lung to a bike accident, it was puuuuuurfect, I mean perfect for resting and catching my breath. We shoed across the Mt. Rose Meadows and ended up on a log overlooking Lake Tahoe. It was absolutely beautiful. I knew on my way up the hill, there would be a horrible blister on my right heel. TRUE....but today is my first day without a bandaid or moleskin. Thank GOODNESS for moleskin....wish I invented it.
I did not walk yesterday due to the streets being icy, guilt actually set in which means I must be in the beginnings of a habit. Yippee Skippy.
It's been incredible the amount of emails from friends to start walking. I've turned them all down so far but February I think I may be close to doing okay on hills. So a big thanks to Buffy, April, Diana, Pam, Marie, Heidi and others for giving me the chance to call you at a days notice to go for it.
Buffy's mother passed away from breast cancer. She has done the 3-day cure twice and inspired a few of us to do the same with awesome stories and photos and her excitement of what it's done for her.
Okay a shout out to my tennis shoes. LOVE MY SKETCHERS. I havn't really noticed a huge difference since January 1 other then I'm not as winded, I've lost 5 lbs (not sure where) and I feel guilty if I don't walk. I love it!!
Come back soon, more stories.....

Finally figured out posting, this was done 2 weeks ago
Last night my friend and I hit the Marina, everything that was on my mind melted off the first quarter mile. Blah, blah, blah.....yes I did most of the talking. I forgot how much I enjoy walking. The mind was cleared.
Every time we pass someone in a pink headband, shirt, etc I wonder to myself if they are in training too?
My aunt sounds like she is doing great. Due to so many 3 day weekends, her burns are not as bad because she has time to heal in between her radiation treatments. She is starting to feel the effects of tiredness. She's an inspration, as the rest of my family that has gone through cancer. I've learned so much about life through them and know that no matter what news you are given, you can turn it around into a positive
Thinking of my children, grandkids and Stew today. This is one of those days I would love to stay home.

Happy New Year
Yesterday, I called a training partner and walked the Sparks Marina. It's only 2 miles but it's a start. We committed to definite Tuesday and Thursday walks after work.
Monday I'm cutting back working hours arriving to work at 9a.m. instead of 7a.m. This will give me the boost to get a good walk in the mornings, hopefully 3-5 miles, 5 days a week.
A friend from high school has a 4 mile Arrowcreek workout in the works but I won't begin that for a few more weeks until I feel comfortable with hills. We're signing up for a 5K snowshoe race in February, so I have alot of support and commitments to fullfill.
I spent the day with my mom shopping for fabrics, ribbon and other accessories for a fashion show late spring. All the proceeds will go towards fundraising efforts. It should be fun.
Thanks again for all your support. Looking forward to tomorrows training!

One week countdown
I'm competitive when it comes to setting a goal for myself. I've committed to raising $2300.00 but deep down I'm hoping to raise alot more.
Last night I met with friends and training was brought up. I was doing well before the winter months but honestly have not done anything since.
New Years, I'll begin my commitment for the year. It's been 11 years since I've trained for a marathon, something many said would not happen. It was a huge commitment, walking daily 3-5 miles three days a week and 12 miles every Saturday. Thanks to friends like Pam Owens Brown, her father Don Owens, Mona Dible and Miguel Tibidueza..they helped make a difference by helping with training ideas and alot of walking.
The excitement of knowing I was running for a good cause and pushing myself to do something was exhilerating. The minute I saw the finish line leaves me speechless. I can't put it into words. The adrenaline rush was amazing.
What I do know, is that I'm thrilled about the 3-Day Cure walking in honor of my Aunt Paula, my Aunt Pat and many others who are going through a personal cancer/tumor battle.
I've bought my new Sketcher Shape-up tennis shoes, which I would recommend to every walker. Keep coming back to see what's going on. If you know me, you know I'll commit to writing posts.
Look out world, a cure is on the way and you and I can help make a difference!
