First day of training!
|
I'm getting geared up!
Please support me as I take an amazing journey in the fight against breast cancer! The Breast Cancer 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. Net proceeds benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure and National Philanthropic Trust, funding important breast cancer research, education, screening, and treatment.
The Journey Begins
A couple of years ago, when I first learned that a female relative was battling breast cancer, I felt sad and hopeless. I wondered what I could possibly say that could make a difference. What could I possibly do that could make things right for her. I was without words. I knew that no bouquet of flowers and no box of chocolates could fix this. Ok, the chocolates might have helped a little. I said nothing. I did nothing. Thankfully, she is a survivor.
A year later, her sister was diagnosed with breast cancer. Again, I prayed but said nothing. How could I make a difference? What could I do that could change things for her? Silently, my heart went out to her. Thankfully, she too is a survivor.
In March of 2009, her daughter, my cousin, was diagnosed with breast cancer. Everyone is horrified at this terrible injustice. A young woman in the prime of her life... 27 years old and ready to begin a family with her husband. Cancer. What can I do? What can I say? I had originally asked her if she wanted to join me on the 3-Day in Philadelphia in honor of her Mother and Aunt. Maybe she already knew that the possibility may not be there. Maybe she had already felt the lump. Now, she has had a double mastectomy and will be going through chemotherapy soon. Her prognosis is very positive. She has an amazing, optimistic outlook on life and is looking forward to beating breast cancer. Thankfully, she is a fighter.
I have great respect and admiration for these three women and it is with their tribulations in mind that I promise to work my hardest to raise money for the Breast Cancer 3-Day. Marlynn, Carol and Alicia - this is for YOU! Please join me in honoring them. Donate today!
Thank you!
