The Time is Now
For the 7th year and what will be my 17th event I am walking in the Susan G. Komen 3 Day. I began this journey in 2010. I walked my first walk in honor of my beautiful mommy. She took her last breath in 2004.
I had never done anythng like this before. I had no clue what I signed up for and was actually quite terrified. I soon learned what I signed up for. A lot of blisters, a lot of tears, a lot of laughter, a lot of new friendships, and a lot of kicking cancers butt. It was three of the best days of my life. I walked away from there knowing a difference had been made. I had hope!
In the years since I have lost many friends to cancer. I have also seen many friends earn the title of survivor and I believe the money that we raise has helped that be possible.
In 2013 my daddy was diagnosed with lung cancer. He put up a good fight, but on November 5th he passed away from it. So now two parents were taken.
In 2015 my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer. She has fought it like a beast and she is now cancer free! However, that was enough for me I made the choice to have a Prophylactic Double Mastectomy. Those who know me know that my recovery hasn't been easy, but I wouldnt change a thing.
People ask me every year why I walk. The answer is easy. I walk because I can and because I can not walk away. I walk for you, I walk for family, I walk for friends, I walk for my daughters, I walk for yours, I walk for our sisters, I walk for the survivors, and for the taken. I WILL walk until there is a cure.
However, I can't do it without your support. Any type of donation helps. Every dollar raised goes towards Komen. The time is now. It is time for us to tell cancer no more. I am tired of losing friends. I am tired of friends being diagnosed. I am tired of cancer leaving children without parents or parents without children. The time is NOW!
