As many know, the 2020 Susan G. Komen 3-Day, 60-mile events have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 virus. Although we understood why, for those that participate in these events, this was a huge disappointment as this community is very special to all of us. With each dollar we raise and step we take on event, we know that we are that much closer to a cure. To “take a year off” from the events simply goes against our DNA to help those affected by breast cancer.
For our family, as with many others, we know that breast cancer was not “cancelled” for 2020. It is not taking a break during, also starting again in 2021. It is relentless in that it can affect everyone, changing lives without remorse. It is because of this, that we are doing the same.
For 2020, we are continuing to fundraise to meet our 2020 goal of $20,000 and have set that goal again for 2021, for a total of $40,000. We are moving forward with all our normal fundraisers, being creative where COVID is forcing us to change plans.
One change for 2021’s fundraising is Komen’s change in how they receive monies. Prior to 2021’s, we could put the funds for all cities into one cities location, making it easier to track and point donors to. Starting with 2021, we are raising funds for each city, with the funds shown in that city. The great news is we have met the minimum for Boston, Chicago and Dallas-Ft. Worth already, each having just over $5,000. All remaining donations will be placed in our San Diego fundraising site, which is where you are reading this. As I write this, we are just over $7,000, with the goal of raising $25,000. With the other three cities, this would bring our total to our overall goal of $40,000.
Please consider making a donation, large or small to help us reach our goals. Although your donation goes towards our fundraising goal, more importantly it goes towards research, education and helping those who cannot afford diagnosis and treatments. Your dollars are used immediately towards these efforts.
Since beginning our participation in 2008, in honor and celebration to our mom who lost her life to breast cancer in 2004, your generosity has allowed us to raise nearly $210,000, with our goal to exceed $225,000 by the end of 2021. Please consider helping us reach our goal and most importantly to help those affected by breast cancer.
Thank you for all you do to help take us closer to the goal of ending breast cancer.
