This year, I am again participating in the Twin Cities and San Diego events. But, wait. That’s not all! I will also be walking in the New England event! That’s right. That’s 180 miles, and nine days of walking. This means that on August 16-18, I will take my first 60-mile walk in the Minnesota heat (or rain), and share lots of hugs with familiar faces. Three weeks later, on September 6-8, I get to do it all again in Boston. Then, on November 15-17, I again have the honor of participating in the San Diego walk, closing out 2019 with my 25th walk.
Why three walks? It is partly because I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to walk in Boston—which is offered for this year only. And it is partly because walking in three seemed like a good way to honor my mom hitting her 15-year end-of-treatment mark. I started this journey 13 years ago to give back and pay it forward—so, this year, I want to do that in an even bigger way.
I don’t walk just for me. I walk in honor of my loved ones. And I walk on behalf of you, to honor you or your loved ones. If you would like me to walk in honor or memory of someone, please let me know (or simply list it on the honor roll on the donation page) and I will carry their names with me at all times on the walks. It is my belief that research into any kind of cancer can only be helpful in the fight against all cancer, so I will also be walking for those touched by cancer of any kind.
In order to participate in all three walks, I need to raise a minimum of $6,900. I am setting my goal at $9,892.20, to bring my lifetime total to one dollar past the $83,000 lifetime mark. What an incredible landmark! I would not be nearing the $80K mark without you!
One in eight women will face a breast cancer battle in her lifetime, and one in every 100 cases of breast cancer is a man. I refuse to let those men and women down. On the walks, I not only form instant friendships forged through sweat and tears, but I also get to see how the work we do makes a difference for real people. Every story I hear makes me more determined. This is an incredible, bittersweet journey.
Thank you so much for being a part of it.
