MY PROGRESS

106 percent of goal achieved.

Goal:  $2,200.00
Achieved: $2,329.00

A few months ago, my life long bestfriend, Jonathan's wife, Kandi, was diagnosed with breast cancer.

She and my wife, Alli, became instant friends when Jonathan came to visit us with his family last summer. So, when Kandi mentioned to Alli that she'd like to do the 3Day when she finished her treatment, but wasn't sure, Alli quickly said "ok, when, I'll do it with you." Alli, being the natural fundraiser and always game for a good cause gave Kandi the support she needed to get a team together and start the journey towards the 3 Day in Washington DC in October.

Ironically, just weeks later, upon receiving our 3Day materials, Alli found a lump and went in to have her doctor tell her it was fine. He thought so, but diligently sent her for a mammogram....then they sent her for a ultrasound...and then they recommended an MRI. Nothing gave us the "all clear" we expected and we were a little nervous and scared, to be honest. She had to have a biopsy, and that came back OK, but they still wanted to take the lump out. Just a few weeks later they surgically removed a huge lump (5cmX4cmX2cm). Although the initial pathology was benign, there was an area they couldn't identify and needed more tests. When all was said and done, and the roller coaster of emotions was over, Alli was fine. She has a few battle scars and will have more frequent mammograms than the usual yearly ones, to make sure nothing else pops up, but she is alive and well.

I can tell you from experience, the frightening tests, biopsies and surgeries a woman with breast cancer goes through, and the emotions and helplessness a husband and family feels is something no one should have to go through. I had already planned to do this walk with my wife, Jonathan and his family, to show my support, and let him know they are not alone as his wife fights for her life and selflessly walks so that others may win their fight. I know Alli isn't an official "breast cancer survivor" but after the weeks we've had, I think they should give a special honor to women who even have to go through the paces to find out that they are ok.

I urge you to support me in our journey as we walk 60 miles in the fight against breast cancer, so that all women and their families have a better chance at the "happy ending" we were so graciously blessed with.

I appreciate your support.
