Last October, I embarked with my friend Nicole on an incredible journey across Washington, D.C. Together, we raised over $4000 to join in the fight against breast cancer. Most importantly, we walked sixty miles in three days to stand up against cancer and demonstrate our support for everyone who has dealt with this terrible disease.

This year, I am happy to walk again. I have no doubt that it will be tough - these are difficult times for everyone. But cancer doesn't take a break, and neither should we.

I cannot describe to you how fulfilling it was to participate in last year's walk - while it may have been my first, I intend to do it for every year that I can. Crossing that finish line with 3500 other walkers made my heart swell with pride - it wasn't just about the hard work we put into raising the money. It was the stand we took - the toll we took on our own bodies and minds to cover those sixty miles - so minimal compared to the damage cancer can cause.

I walked for my mother, an eight year survivor. But I also walked for those who haven't been as fortunate. Please help me reach my fundraising goal so that I can travel back to D.C. and take another proud stand against this disease.

Thank you so much!

Let the fun(draising) begin!
I decided immediately after crossing the finish line last year that I would participate in the walk again, but I'm finally beginning the fundraising process this month. Adjusting to the last semester of graduate school has been difficult, and it's going to be a real challenge to put as much effort into fundraising as I was able to last year, before starting on my master's paper! But, I have no doubt that I can do it.
Over the coming weeks, I'll be re-formatting last year's official walk blog - Tar Heel Walk. I'll post the link as soon as that's completed. I will also create an online album displaying pictures from last year's walk. Words really can't describe what an amazing experience it was. I never thought I would say I "missed" walking 60 miles, but...after returning to North Carolina, I did. I missed the wonderful people, the supportive atmosphere, the routine of walking every day - knowing that I was taking a stand.
Fundraising in any sense is difficult, but it was so much more satisfying to complete the walk after fundraising - it's one thing to give money to a cause (which is still a wonderful action) - it's quite another to put your money where your mouth is (or...feet are?) and really get out there and show your support. That's just one reason I really support this walk.
I would love to have a larger team this year - if you are thinking of joining but have any questions or concerns, I would be more than happy to answer them! People of all ages and health backgrounds participate in the walk, so don't hesitate!
Regardless, I am determined to meet my goal again so that I can travel to D.C. in October and walk. Times are certainly difficult, but please consider supporting this wonderful cause - just think, if each person who reads this website donated just $10, I could reach my goal in no time - in fact, I could surpass it (which is exactly what I intend to do).
I will update frequently. Thank you for your support!
Love,
Jenni
