Hey, my hair is coming back!
|
Why walk 60 miles? Because I can. Oh, and because I like to be in control. In July 2008 I was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. I had no control over whether or not I “wanted” to have breast cancer. I had no control over the fact that I needed to have a mastectomy. I had no control over whether or not I wanted to do 12 weeks of chemotherapy. I had no control over whether or not I wanted to loose my hair (okay, I did take control and shave it!) But now that I am cancer free, I do have control over how I’m going to treat cancer in the future. And I’m going to help fight it. And if walking 60 miles in exchange for your donation is the way to do it sign me up! Bring on the blisters! If I can get through chemo. I can walk 60 miles. (plus - I hear there are snacks along the way!!)
I’ll be walking for my friends Cheryl and Marion and Michelle and Dottie and Bobbie and Anglele, Betty, Jessica, Suzy, Vonnie, Leslie, Michelle's sister and Mariah's mother and Jerri who know what it’s like to not have control over whether or not to have breast cancer. I’ll be walking for the women who can’t walk themselves. I’ll be walking to thank the doctors, and nurses that helped me. I’ll be walking to thank my family and friends for supporting me. I’ll be walking so that eventually no one will have to walk.
The very first thing my surgeon said to me was that this “this cancer is a nuisance and now we just have to kick it’s butt.”
So, Want to help me kick butt?
Please support me as I take an amazing journey in the fight against breast cancer! The Breast Cancer 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. Net proceeds benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure and National Philanthropic Trust, funding important breast cancer research, education, screening, and treatment.
