The Breast Cancer 3-Day

I dedicate this walk to my cousin Diane...

Please support me as I take an amazing journey in the fight against breast cancer! The Breast Cancer 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. Net proceeds benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure and National Philanthropic Trust, funding important breast cancer research, education, screening, and treatment.

I had never seen the face of Breast Cancer until it hit my family this past year. I love my cousin very much and she is going through hell and back to beat this disease. I do this and dedicate this walk to her because she is a survivor. Diane, this one is for you. I love you!

I have done this walk one time before, and it literally killed my feet. I did the best I could, but I am training every day or every other day now, and have been on a personal physical change to make it this year, all three days, all 60 miles. I am hoping to have Diane at the finish line when I cross it, and cheering me on like I have cheered her on during this difficult time. She is a strong woman, and knowing her all my life, as one of my treasured cousins, this has brought us closer together as a family.

Please donate today, I need help achieving my goal!

Gearing up for the Three Day!

I'VE MADE GOAL!
I hit the monetary goal a few weeks ago and it feels great. I am now gearing up with double workouts double the mileage in walking, and making sure my feet are toughed up for the three day walk. Our night at the Dallas Bull was great and profitable. Thanks to all who came out to support us, as that meant the world to our WQYK team. Now, the countdown is on, and its 21 days til the walk (as of today). Please come out and cheer us on as we walk 60 miles in three days to stamp out (literally!) breast cancer! My cousin will be here, Diane, who beat this and recieved a clean bill of health this summer! This is why I walk, this is the reason why our family is stronger because of this, and this is the way it should be because everyone deserves a lifetime.
BTW I was over at International Hair Gallery on HWY 19 in Palm Harbor, and they are selling pink hair extentions~proceeds to benefit breast cancer survivors, and I am wearing mine during the walk!
Peace out,
Jan

I'm Walkin', Yes Indeed....
Officially I am down 49 pounds. I am 21 pounds from goal! And I have only raised 49% of the funds needed for the walk. I need your help. If you donate 15 dollars today, I will send you a pin that is TOTALLY cute, and everyone who sees it will want one. I have four different styles, a fuscia pink ribbon, a pink ribbon with a gold angel on it, a pink ribbon with a small heart on it, and finally, a pink ribbon with a high heel shoe on it. TOTALLY cute stuff! Again, with a 15 dollar donation I will send you your choice. Donate 50 dollars and I will send you ALL 4 pins! They are worth it. This walk is worth it!

I am posting our WQYK 3 Day YouTube Team page for you to look at and add to if you like. We are starting to go full force with our team and its great to see the videos of not only our progress, but of years past that mean so much to the community. Please, take a look!
Finally, my cousin Diane is having her last chemo treatment this week. She made it! She is now on the full path of recovery, which means reconstruction and growing her hair back. I think its amazing what she has fought, and won. This is why I walk.
Please, donate today....
If you shoot for the moon and miss it, reach out and grab a star.

Still walking, and still taking donations for the goal. I have set up a little shop in my cubicle at work, with breast cancer awareness pins, leave some change for some chocolate jar, wraparound bracelets, book marks, and earrings. I will also be doing the "chance to win" baskets! I have six I put together, and people can buy a chance for 2 dollars or three chances for 5. They can put their ticket in the drawing for whichever basket they might like. I have three pampering baskets, one basket geared towards guys, one basket for a dog and one basket for a cat. Isn't that cute? I will post pictures here. But they also come with cd's donated by WQYK, big names like Kenny Chesney, Miranda Lambert, Rascal Flatts, Taylor Swift and more. I hope I do well on this chance to win giveaway. The pins are going quickly, the pin with the shoe is the most popular. I sold out of those almost immediately. 15 minimum dollar donation gets you one. Email me if you want information on that. jsnelling@tampabay.rr.com.
Walking is good, up to ten miles, and its good. I have now dropped over 40 pounds, and just have 30 to go.
Diane is coming down for the event! Yeay! Trying to get her sister to come too, and some other cousins. It will be a girls weekend for the walk.
Please donate today!

I walked 10.3 miles this past Saturday on the Pinellas Trail just down the road from where I live. I must have strained something on my left hip because it hasn't let up since Sunday morning. Tried Ibuprofen, but talked to a nurse and that does not relax the muscle. I will need something stronger to relieve the pain.
This is all part of training, and I found out more things as I trekked the long distance walk. My walking/jogging I have been doing since November has definitely made me stronger to do the long distance walks. I had no blisters (well a tiny one but nothing to write home about) and my leg muscles were just fine after 10 miles. It is a process, and this strained muscle is really making me irritated that it won't relax, because I know I am stronger than that.
I booked the flight for my cousin Diane yesterday! She is coming down on the Thursday before the walk, and will be leaving the day after. During that time I hope she will have a nice visit with family here, and also will be at cheering stations along the way. Sunday is going to be great since she will be there among the survivors for closing ceremonies.
It is turning into a family affair, which is exactly what I hoped for.
I still need donations, and will have pins available for a minimum donation as well. Mom is making jewelry and I will also have that for sale. I need all the help I can get to achieve the 2300.00!!!
Please donate today! The sooner I reach my goal, the better it will be towards October.

I have been walking and working out since November. Initially I started working out for health and weight reasons. I have always been a big kid, and a larger adult. I always was told that "I carry my weight well..." but I'm sick of being over weight. So I started walking and joined Weight Watchers to get rid of the pounds.
This past weekend, I achieved my 10% weight loss goal, and then some. I have gotten to that first goal, and now on to a second goal. I hope to have lost 37 more pounds by the time the three day happens. I am already down 32 pounds. Now, the other goal is to be healthy as I do this walk. I wasn't before, and now I am going to take the challenge head on.
I do this walk and dedicate it to my cousin, Diane and today I told her about what I wanted to achieve in her honor. We have been close in past years, and she took care of me as a kid. We have about 14 years in between us, but she always treated me like a kid sister. When I heard of her diagnosis as breast cancer this past November, I was astonished. Nobody in our family had that before! When I did this walk in 2007 I was doing it because it was a good cause. Now, in 2009, its hit home and become very personal. If you have ever seen the face of breast cancer, in your own family, it is a disease that strips one of their own dignity. We need to erase this from the face of the Earth, and with the help of your donations, we can do it. We are almost there. I know it can be one of "those" cancers that can be cured...dealt with....done. Please help me today.
Thanks
Jan
