Big feet, big challange!

Please support me as I take an amazing journey in the fight against breast cancer! The Breast Cancer 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. Net proceeds benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure and National Philanthropic Trust, funding important breast cancer research, education, screening, and treatment.

What is Kathleen doing here?!

I know a million reasons that I might not seem like a good candidate to walk 60 miles in 3 days. (Smoking and drinking might be in the top 20 good reasons but I am still going to do it). I also know too many names of women who are my great reasons for doing this - doing something that matters - doing something that I can do - maybe, just maybe, something that will really, really make a difference. What if my small part was pivotal? What if this had all taken place in time for my mother to be at my wedding instead of my family being at her funeral two weeks earlier. I have loved ones I will walk in memory of and friends I will walk in honor of and for my sweet, beautiful neices, step daughter and friends who I love that, thank God, are still untouched by breast cancer - I will walk to defend them against breast cancer. It may be all I can do but, by God, I can do this much. With a lot of help from above and from all of you. Wish me luck - wish us all luck!! With much love, Kathleen

It's HOT!!!

Walking in San Francisco in October should be a BREEZE - even doing 20 miles a day for three days in a row compared to training in New Orleans 100+ degree heat index and same humidity!! If I survive the training and can raise the donations - the 3-Day will truly be a celebration for me! And, my t-shirt not only has that I am walking in memory of my mother, I have also added the names of three friends who are survivors who I am walking in honor of - Claudia Potter, Jenny Rome and Brenda Williams. And it is my honor to walk for them!

Kathleen walks the walk (while talking, of course)

Carrying the 'My Aunt' flag!
We have been notified that several of our Mississippi Melon team members have been chosen to carry flags in the opening and closing ceremonies at the San Francisic 3 Day Walk. I have been chosen to carry the "My Aunt" flag - other flags are 'my mother', 'my friend', etc. My sister-in-law, Kendra, our team captain, asked each of us to write a few lines about what carrying our flag means to us. Fortunatly, I have not had an aunt fight breast cancer - my mother, yes, but not my aunts. Then I started thinking - I AM THE AUNT!!! No, thank God, I do not have breast cancer and hope I never will. But I AM the beloved Aunt KK to Triple, Megan, Erin, Caitlyn, Claire, Kameron, Britton and little Gus - Simpsons, all, and they LOVE their Aunt KK. I never want them to go through the heartbreak of being told their aunt has breast cancer. Or their sister, or their friend, or their cousin. Each of them has already lost their precious grandmother, Mimi, to breast cancer. Nobody else, please, God, nobody else. So when I carry the "My Aunt" flag, I will be thinking of them and walking so that none of them - or anyone else - faces that ever again.
