We've been doing the walks, although no really long walks yet. The most I've done is 13 miles in a day. But I am getting down to brass tacks (hopefully not stepping on any) and plan a jaunt today that's a test. Betty says I need another pair of shoes that's at least a half-size larger, since your feet swell a lot by the third day's walk. I'm working on it. Please continue to feed the kitty!

Boy, do I have to shake the proverbial tail feather! Need to raise more money (hint, hint) and do more training. Fortunately, my chiropractor is on board in this effort and keeps on the straight and narrow -- literally. So be a nice person and give more money. I'm at about 80 miles total training since May 1. I will do more. You too, please?

Betty and I did a ten mile training run yesterday (July 25, 2009) and then attended the Preview Expo in Valley Forge, PA. Today I'm stiff, sore but proud. Attending the Expo reminds me of the wonderful people by whom I'm surrounded on The 3 Day walk! What nice folk! I couldn't pick better friends and companions. Now it's only a calendar quarter from the event I'm really getting psyched! Oh, by the way, I'm really praying for your financial support. Please give what you can.

On May 1st the deed is 24 weeks away and the training officially begins. I've volunteered to coach and I have to do my "Coaches training session" to be eligible for that privilege. I plan to do that next week, I think it's on April 15th. It can't be as taxing as what else happens on that day. Anyway, I'm posting the schedule of sessions and their locations here as soon as I've gotten some degree of visibility on the details. The training will be supported with team members who will stay with people traveling at their own personally appropriate rate of speed, water and power bars, overall supervision and sag wagon for those who've bitten off more than they can chew. The more the merrier, even if you're not actually doing the 3Day. vandy@olmstead.net is my email address if you have questions or just want to RSVP.

I've volunteered to coach other walkers and the 24 week training period for the Philadelphia 3Day starts on May 1st. I'm looking forward to getting into high gear and I want to help as many others have a successful and safe walk as there are people who feel they need a little assistance. If that's you, leave me a message here. I'm located in Wilmington Delaware. My training walks will happen between my home and Valley Forge. I love to walk in the park. Hey, aren't we gonna do that in October anyway? Good luck to all and happy fund raising. That's why we do all this right?

I was going to do the 3 Day again, this time as a walker. What an experience it was to crew for those wonderful people last year. I hope I can live up to their example and carry it off with the good humor, selflessness and class exhibited by the walkers of 2008. I'm planning to do my best and no less will do!
