Join me in the fight against breast cancer
Is this the year for a cure?
The Three Day Walk for Breast Cancer Research is a fund raiser most people are familiar with. A large majority of the population has been affected by this disease, a family member, a friend, a coworker. This is the reason I am writing this letter to you.
This dreaded disease affected my family. In March of 2005, my wife, Amy & I were devastated when we learned she had developed breast cancer, but relied on family & friends to get us through this. Amy decided early on in the process that she would not sit in the corner & cry; she stood tall and stayed in control & knew she would fight & win the battle. The procedure was done; she went through chemotherapy & radiation and celebrated her fourth year anniversary of being a breast cancer survivor. She is winning her battle & we want to continue helping others win their battle. The year is now 2009; our son, Ben is teaching & coaching soccer in Tarpon Springs, FLA, his wife Michelle is working as an attorney at a firm in Clearwater. Melissa, our daughter, is living & working as an athletic trainer in Pittsburgh, PA. She also has worked with the Pittsburgh Steelers during the past year. For the past 3 years, Amy & I worked as crew members during the Michigan 3 Day Breast Cancer Walk. We have once again are working this year for the 2009 Michigan Breast Cancer 3 Day. Knowing that we have made a small contribution to the cause makes helping out easy to do. We are asking for your help, through contributions, moral support, or participation to help spread the word about breast cancer & finding a cure. Having family & friends support us through the original ordeal of Amy’s breast cancer & working on the Breast Cancer 3 Day Walk allows us to continue helping others beat their battle with this terrible disease. This year, according to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, more than 200,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer. About 40,000 will die from the disease. That's why we are doing this - to do something to help find a cure for breast cancer. We will be helping to set up camp for the walkers, preparing food, shouting encouragement, & enjoying every minute of it. The money raised goes into breast cancer research. We as crew members are not required but encouraged to raise money, walkers are required to do so, but we have decided that if a cure is to be found, the money needs to come from somewhere, people like you & me. In the current economic situation in the great State of Michigan asking for contributions is very difficult. For the past 3 years the people of Michigan have repeatedly stepped up & have contributed. Michigan has the largest crew to walker ratio in the country at about 6 to 1 & Michigan is the only state that the crew members have consistently raise over $100,000 for this event year after year. Regardless of whatever amount that can be pledged, it will be greatly appreciated & will be used to help find a cure for breast cancer. THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTION, whether it is financial or spiritual support, I sincerely thank you.
