What is a 3-Day?

The Breast Cancer 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days.

Net proceeds benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure and National Philanthropic Trust, funding important breast cancer research, education, screening, and treatment.

I've never done a walk like this before, so honestly I am a little nervous! They say it isn't for wimps and that I need to train seriously for it. So don't be surprised if you see me walking all over Charleston with Milo in a jogging stroller over the next few months! I am inspired to get fit for this worthy cause, as well as for my new son.

I am walking in honor of two wonderful friends, JENNIFER (top photo) and ANGELA (bottom photo), who are both survivors of this scary disease.

Jennifer and I have been friends since college. She was diagnosed at the incredibly young age of 30. After a lumpectomy, chemo and radiation she has now been cancer-free almost 10 years!

Angela and I have been friends since high school. She suffered a rare form of breast cancer and endured a double mastectomy and difficult reconstruction only a few years ago.

They are both beloved wives and mothers, and I am thankful for the fantastic treatments that gave them a new lease on life! You can read more about them in the blog that is linked the next section. (Entry date March 19, 2009)

Team Kaz Mamas

I am so excited to be doing this fundraising walk with a wonderful group of fellow Kazakhstan adoptive moms. We live all over the country, and became close through our shared experiences in adoption.

We will be convening in Arizona for the Phoenix walk to support each other as we raise money for this cause that is so close to our hearts.

We traveled 6496 miles to bring our children home. Walking 60 miles for a cure is no problem!
