I am very excited to say that I have registered for the Susan G Komen Three-Day Walk in San Diego in November 2023. This will be my second time walking as a proud member of Team Joyce! I am so excited to be a part of this event and a member of Joyce Connery's team. She's a fantastic friend that inspires (and supports) me every day. I am walking as I have been lucky to have a large group of women who have provided me with support, laughs, and love throughout my life. Several of these women have experienced breast cancer. When I did this walk in November 2021, I knew it would be challenging but I was surprised about how my body responded to walking those first 20 miles. I did not think I could walk one more foot let alone a second day; then I thought about my friends who have undergone cancer treatment. Every one of them has told me how they prepared for treatment and was surprised by how their bodies responded. Many of them said they were unsure how to continue their treatment but they had to continue. With that realization, I took more steps and walked the entire three days. I am supporting the incredible women in my life who survived breast cancer. I am also walking in memory of Carol Weys, who dedicated her career to community health and the development of early-detection screening policy as part of her work with the American Cancer Society.
Please support me as I commit to an incredible challenge. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. It will be hard, but it’s not as hard as breast cancer. It’s not as hard as chemo. It’s not as hard as getting bad news at your latest scan. It’s not as hard as saying goodbye. And that’s why I know I have to do this. That’s why I commit. That’s why I’m walking and why I’m raising money – to end breast cancer forever.
