2023 Denver 3-Day

Team Jill & Ron

This will be our 15th year as a team participating in the SGK 3-day! In 2023 we are headed to Denver to walk in late August. We miss our great support in MN, but we know you are all with us in spirit. We all continue to share a common goal of raising funds and awareness about breast cancer.

Here is a little backstory about why we walk for Team Jill & Ron
About Jill......
Jill Brandenburg was a brave young mom who lost her battle with breast cancer in 2006 at the age of 31. Jill fought for four long years and left behind her young daughter, Ashley who is now 20. We have all been touched by Jill's story and as mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, aunts, and uncles want to make sure no other child has to witness this disease or lose a loved one. This is our way of taking a stand against this disease by walking.
About Ron…
Ron McElmurry was diagnosed January 2011 with Infiltrating Ductile Carcinoma at the age of 45. He underwent chemo, surgery, and radiation. In February 2016; his diagnosis had changed to metastatic breast cancer (stage 4); the cancer moved to other parts of his body including
his lung, bones, and liver. On March 9, 2021 Ron died peacefully at home, surrounded by his wife (and Team Jill and Ron team member) Mary Beth, as well as their two sons, Jake and Aaron. Ron loved his family and friends. He loved spending time working on his golf game, bowling, camping and bird watching. Ron was proud to be a scientist in Pediatric Cancer at the U of MN; he felt that even though he was not able to directly work on his type of cancer, he was able to help other families in their fight against childhood cancer. This will be the second event since Ron’s death that Mary Beth will walk in the SGK Three Day. We know the walk will be difficult for MB and we feel honored to walk beside her as we celebrate and remember Ron in this way.
We have all had to say goodbye to so many loved ones over the year and we continue to hope and pray for continued medical advancements for individuals dealing with this terrible disease. Team Jill & Ron members will continue to do our part to help where we can!
