Thank you for visiting my page. You might know on Saturday afternoon in last year's San Diego Susan G Komen walk, I was knocked to the ground and assaulted by a bystander. Thankfully I wasn't hurt and the people around me pulled the perpetrator off my back and helped me to my feet. I finished the last 2 miles that Saturday with the help of a good friend.
My reflection on the assault led me to even more compassion for breast cancer victims. They too, are just walking along in life and suddenly hit from behind and knocked off their feet with a cancer diagnosis. In that moment they lay helpless. It's the friends surrounding them who extend a hand and get them back on their feet. It's the friends surrounding them who they lean on as they put one foot in front of the other. It's the friends around them who walk with them through the pain to healing. and it's the friends closeby who sometimes walk them all the way to the finish line.
Susan G. Komen 3-Day is the friend around so many. This 60-mile walk over the course of three days is hard, but it’s not as hard as breast cancer. It’s not as hard as chemo. It’s not as hard as getting bad news at your latest scan. It’s not as hard as saying goodbye. And that’s why I know I have to do this. That’s why I commit. That’s why I’m walking. I want to be that outstretched arm helping breast cancer victims back to their feet and into God's healing light. Thank you for your support.
