Thank you for visiting the fundraising website in honor of Maureen Miller.
We are grateful that you are considering a donation to the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer 3-Day, a mission into which Maureen poured her heart and soul (and soles) ...to raise funds and raise awareness so as to eradicate breast cancer.
Since 1998, Maureen has participated in 35 events in 10 different cities across the US. Yes, that is over 2100 miles (ignoring training miles). She started that journey in 1998 in response to her sister Kathy's completion of breast cancer treatment. In 1999, when Kathy died of metastatic breast cancer, Maureen's resolve grew stronger. Breast cancer must stop! Over the course of these 25 years, Maureen raised over $120,000 for the cause. She is a founding member of a team, the Wild Women Walking for a Cure, that has raised over $1 million dollars for the cause.
In 2020, Maureen was diagnosed with breast cancer. She went through treatment and reconstruction and proudly lived as a breast cancer survivor, celebrating the accomplishment by fundraising and walking in all four 3-Day events in 2022. When she was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in late May 2023, she had plans for walking in 3 more events in 2023, adding 180 more miles to her tally. She was nearly complete with fundraising for all 3 events when breast cancer cruelly took Maureen from us on August 1, 2023
Maureen’s story is a sobering reminder that our work is far from over; each step we take and every dollar we raise as Susan G. Komen 3-Day participants is critical and needed.
Funds raised through the 3-Day fundraising are used for breast cancer research, patient support, treatment access, and awareness programs through Susan G. Komen for the Cure, one of the world's leading cancer organizations. We have made great strides with these funds in the last 20 years. But there is more work to be done.
Maureen's daughter, Maggie, will be walking the Denver 2023 3-Day in Maureen's place. Maggie was 5 years old when Maureen started walking 3-Days and joined Maureen for a 3-Day in 2010 when she was old enough to participate.
By donating with the link below, additional walker(s) will be sponsored for the San Diego 3-Day in Maureen's name. More importantly, the important work of Susan G. Komen for the Cure will be supported.
Thank you for your honoring Maureen's memory in this way.
With gratitude,
Peggy and the Wild Women Walking for a Cure team
