2022 will be my 7th Komen 3-Day walk. Along my side is my service dog, Missy who has been with me every step of the way over the last 8 years. In 2012 I was in a major car accident. This accident stopped me in my tracks and forced me to make decisions that were extremely difficult to make.. When you hear, “life can change in the blink of an eye”, believe it! Cherish every moment as life really can throw you curveballs. In 2015, I made a huge decision to join Hands Up for Hooters to help get my body moving. I’d just had my 2nd neck surgery and I will never forget the first “training” walk that I attended with a full neck brace on and still couldn’t move my head. But I was determined to beat the odds and get this body of mine back to its functional self that I knew and loved. I know the challenges I face are nothing compared to what someone battling this terrible disease goes through, but I will say…taking the steps to help make a difference in the lives of those affected by this terrible disease is something I can do! You can do it to!
The Susan G. Komen 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. It is hard, but it’s not as hard as battling breast cancer. It’s not as hard as chemo. It’s not as hard as getting bad news at your latest scan. It’s not as hard as saying goodbye. I am walking in loving memory of my dear friend Patty who we lost on Valentine’s Day 2021, my dear friend, Chai, who is currently fighting for her life, and for many of my friends who have battled this disease and won! And that’s why I know I have to do this. That’s why I commit. That’s why I’m walking and why I’m raising money – to end breast cancer forever. Please support me as I commit to this incredible challenge.
