This November I'm participating in my 5th Susan G Komen 3 Day, and it will be the 2nd one to honor my late Aunt Patty. My team, Hands Up for Hooters, is in its 7th year, and we will be walking 60 miles over the course of 3 days. This will be the year that we break the $1Million mark in overall funds raised for the Komen foundation!
Aunt Patty would be so excited for us to be reaching this huge landmark. She was one of our biggest cheerleaders! Patty was diagnosed with breast cancer in early spring of 2020...again. She’d beaten it 15 years prior, and was thriving until this diagnosis. That was quickly followed by a mastectomy, and multiple rounds of chemo. They got all the cancer, and the chemo was supposed to help lower the chances of it coming back. She was a warrior through it all, keeping a positive attitude, and still making everyone laugh. And we thought she’d come through it. Aside from being tired, Auntie Patty seemed to be doing great. She was back at work with us at Lyon, and was ready to kick 2021’s butt. Then she passed away unexpectedly on Valentine’s Day. We don’t know if everything she went though last year had a direct effect on her passing, but it couldn’t have helped. We’ve lost a vibrant, loving, inspiring, independent, stubborn, generous, kind, and funny woman, and I feel that loss every day. I can't believe that we've lived a year without her in our lives, without hearing her laughter or getting her hugs. She is SO very missed. She was always a huge supporter of my Komen walks, and was always one of my first donors, and she would be touched to know that she lives on in so many of us, in so many ways.
So I dedicate this 3-Day walk to her, to my Auntie Patty.
I hope you’ll support me in honoring Aunt Patty, with a tax deductible donation. Thanks so much for taking the time to read this, please feel free to share it with others!
