60 Miles in Chicago with Carolyn (my 'pink' sister)!
In 2019 and 2022, I did the Susan G Komen 3-day, 60-mile walk in memory of my sister, Carolyn, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010 and passed in 2015. In 2021, I was diagnosed with the same triple negative breast cancer. What a shock! But not too surprising as there seems to be a genetic connection. After what seems like months of treatment, recovery is slow. Doctors say it takes a year to recover from the treatments. However, I am ready to take on the 3-Day challenge again!
I am committed more now than ever to support the research necessary to end breast cancer as a life-threatening disease. I am now committed to walk in the SGK 3-day New England event in 2023. My doctor said to stay active, so I am doing it! That is 60 miles over 3 days (safer than rappelling, easier than climbing 14'er mountains or running 1/2 marathons!).
It will be hard, but it’s not as hard as breast cancer. It’s not as hard as chemo. It’s not as hard as getting bad news at your latest scan. It’s not as hard as saying goodbye. And that’s why I know I have to do this. That’s why I commit. That’s why I walk and raise money – to end breast cancer forever. Please support me as I commit to this incredible challenge. Everyone deserves a lifetime.
Thank you,
Cheryl Brock
