Please support me as I commit to an incredible challenge. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. It will be hard, but it’s not as hard as breast cancer. It’s not as hard as chemo. It’s not as hard as getting bad news at your latest scan. It’s not as hard as saying goodbye. And that’s why I know I have to do this. That’s why I commit. That’s why I’m walking and why I’m raising money – to end breast cancer forever.
My first memory of cancer is of my younger cousin battling and losing his fight at the age of four; I was six. My younger sister was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in her late teens. She is a Survivor of over 20 years. My grandmother fought and lost her battle with bladder cancer in 2019.
Other friends and their families have struggled with it through out the years but I never thought about what it would be like to have to fight for my life.
After having my first mammogram I was referred for a 2nd and then biopsies. In December of 2020, I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Invasive Breast Cancer. My biopsies showed a small tumor in my right breast and cancer cells in my lymph nodes.
I started my fight. Five months of chemo, double mastectomy, and then 8 weeks of radiation. I was lucky and had a full response to treatment and graduated from a Warrior to a Survivor on Sept 8, 2021.
I have always supported different fundraisers and benefits for others but never thought it would hit close to home. Now, with being a Survivor, I try and help others, sharing what worked for me and give them the support that I received while fighting.
This is why I'm raising money and awareness. Cancer effects not only the person going through but their family and love ones. I support all Warriors, Survivors, Loved Ones and Lost Ones. Please help me
Thank you,
Becky
