I wanted to tell you about a big challenge I’m taking on this fall. I am going to walk 60 miles (yes, really!) over the course of three days in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day. After years of supoorting my family, I’m finally old enough to join my mom (her 10th walk), my dad (his 7th walk), my sister Stacy (her 5th walk) and my sister Jennifer (also her first walk). This year will also mark the 25th year we’ve all lived without my grandmother.
Breast cancer has always been a part of my life. My grandmother was diagnosed in 1984. She fought bravely for many years, but unfortunately she passed away before I was born, and my greatest sadness is that I never got to know her. So I’ve decided to join my family in this fight. I don’t want to lose anyone else to this horrible disease.
I’ll be lacing up my tennis shoes, going on training walks, and most importantly, asking for money! Because it’s your donations that will help fund the research and the treatment that will make a difference. I’m not used to asking for money, but I know this is not for me. This is for Grandmother, for Aunt Mary Ann, and for the future of my niece and all of the women in your life as well. The 3-Day is not until September, but my goal is to raise $3,000 before then, so I’m getting started now.
This is a huge deal for me, and that’s why I’m asking for help. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
