2018 will be my 6th time walking in the Susan G Komen 3 day!!! 3 days, 60 miles, probably some blood, sweat and for sure tears will be in the mix.
I walk for my Mom, whom in April of this year (2018) will mark her 25th year as a survivor. I walk for my Grandma, whom I lost 29 years ago to this ugly disease. This year, closing ceremonies will take place on the anniversary of her passing (brace yourselves, there will be some ugly tears about it). I walk for myself as well, because "may the odds be ever in your favor" is unlikely to be the case with my genetics.
I hope that in my lifetime, the words you have cancer will be a thing of the past, or at the least, have as much impact as you have an sinus infection, in that treatment will be quick, easy, and no big thing.
We have lost too many people, and I can't ignore it. I will continue to lace up my shoes and walk for as long as I have to because 1 in 8 is too high of a number of women being diagnosed with this devastating disease.
It's not enough to just walk though, to walk I must raise at minimum $2,300, and hopefully I can raise even more. The money donated goes straight to work immediately to fund research, patient assistance programs, and educational outreach programs.
To reach this goal, I will need your help. Any amount helps, and you can donate as little as $5.
I couldn't do any of this without my amazing donors, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you for your continued support of something that means so much to me.
Please support me as I take on an incredible challenge to make an impact in the fight to end breast cancer. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day® isn’t just a 60-mile walk over the course of three days—it’s a journey to the end of breast cancer. In 2016, Komen announced a Bold Goal—to reduce the current number of breast cancer deaths by 50% in the U.S. by 2026. That’s why I’m walking, and raising money—to make that goal a reality.
