By now you all know that a very large part of my life has and always will be raising money for breast cancer research, screening, diagnosis, treatment and ultimately the cure! You also know that I have walked in 6 Avon39 Walks to End Breast Cancer, since I was diagnosed 14 years ago. Because of your help and amazing support, I have personally raised over $75,000 for this cause! Together we have made a huge difference!
As I celebrate 13 years cancer free in August, I am again going to try to make a huge difference and help save and improve more lives!! In January, Avon announced that they will no longer be holding the Avon Walks. Although they stressed that they are still committed to sponsoring a new fundraising program for breast cancer, they have not announced or made public their intentions as of yet.
After months of research, I have decided to participate in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day. I will be walking 60 miles in 3 days in San Diego on November 16th through 18th!
Susan G. Komen has proven to me that they are in this to make a real difference in the fight against breast cancer. Their goal is to reduce the current number of breast cancer deaths by 50% by 2026. I am going to walk and raise money to make their goal a reality. That is MY goal!!
Susan G. Komen is the world’s largest breast cancer organization, funding more breast cancer research than any other non-profit, while providing real time help to those that are facing this horrible disease. Since 2003, the 3-Day has raised more than $820 million and funded more than 2500 research grants and more than 50 clinical trials.
Remember, this year alone, 260,000 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in women and more and 2500 in men. That’s 1 case diagnosed every 2 minutes! More than 40,000 women and 400 men will die from breast cancer in 2018. That’s 1 death every 13 minutes! The BEST news is that today, because of your help, there are more than 3.5 million breast cancer survivors in the US. Let’s continue to make THAT number grow!!
I am really excited to be a Susan G Komen Warrior. Mostly I am excited to continue to make a difference! I will not stop fighting! Your continued support means the world to me and to the millions of people affected by breast cancer in some way! Your contributions definitely help save and improve lives! In my last walk in 2016, you and I raised $25,000, let’s try to beat that amount this year!!
