Thank you for supporting me as we take on this incredible challenge for a 3rd year! The walk begins Friday, Nov. 16th in San Diego where I will walk 20 miles. Then on Saturday, Nov. 17th, I will pull my walking shoes back on and walk another 20 miles followed by the last day, Sunday, Nov. 18th walking the final 20 miles. I have a heart pace-maker and peripheral neuropathy in both feet....BUT....it's not cancer. I am excited and grateful to be able to do a little part of a very big effort.
NEW THIS YEAR!.......For every $25. in donations you make towards my walk this year, I will enter you into a drawing to win a 'Tiffany's' diamond necklace valued at over $600. Each $25.donation made by November 10th, 2018 will qualify you for one ticket in the drawing. (ie: $100. donation equals 4 entries in the drawing)
UPDATED 11/14/2018 ~ Congratulations to Kyle Thompson of Fair Oaks, CA who was the lucky winner of the Tiffany Necklace Giveaway!
It's important to know that seventy-five percent of the net proceeds raised by the 3-Day® help support Komen’s Research and Training Grant Program and large public health outreach programs for women and men facing breast cancer. The remaining 25 percent helps fund local community and Affiliate support and outreach programs.
Thanks to the Komen organization, who since 1982 has funded more than $847 million in research, more than $1.8 billion in screening, education, treatment and psychosocial support, and served millions in over 30 countries worldwide. Their dollars have helped support:
2400 research grants in 49 states and countries
460 clinical trials
300 research advocates
60 partnerships and collaborations
60 scientific conferences.
Thank you for your support as my team 'Hands Up For Hooters' and I take on the incredible challenge to make an impact in the fight to end breast cancer again this year. I have a few goals this year. One is to walk 50 pounds lighter. Since last year's walk, I have lost of 40 pounds.....10 more to go! My next goal is....not get any blisters. My biggest goal however, is to fulfill my personal committment by volunteering to walk and raise at least $2,300. in the effort to end death by breast cancer.
The Susan G. Komen 3-Day® isn’t just a 60-mile walk over the course of three days—it’s a journey to the end death by breast cancer. In 2016, Komen announced a Bold Goal—to reduce the current number of breast cancer deaths by 50% in the U.S. by 2026. That’s why I’m walking, raising money and giving back—to make that goal a reality.
As always, thank you for your continuing generosity! ~ Cathy
