Please support me as I take on an incredible challenge to make an impact in the fight to end breast cancer. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day® isn’t just a 60-mile walk over the course of three days—it’s a journey to the end of breast cancer. In 2016, Komen announced a Bold Goal—to reduce the current number of breast cancer deaths by 50% in the U.S. by 2026.
That’s why I’m walking, and raising money—to make that goal a reality. That’s why I’m walking, and raising money—to make that goal a reality. Another year has arrived and once again I’ll be walking my journey in an attempt to raise money to help fund research and bring awareness to the fight to end breast cancer. This year will be my 17th year of involvement with Susan G. Komen and the breast cancer 3 day. I took up this cause in 2002 when I lost my very dear friend Betty Lou and I wanted or needed some way to mourn and at the same time do something to honor her. Once I began, I realized I had found my passion in life, after meeting survivors that were fighting for their lives and the family and friends that also wanted to do anything they could to support this cause. The very thought that 1 in 8 people would be diagnosed with this killer just turned my stomach.
Over these years I have met so many people, both men and women who have been diagnosed , or believed the same as I, that something had to be done and that a cure had to be found. Were you aware that in 2018 over 330,000 women in the U.S. would be diagnosed and that over 40,000 of those would lose that lives, or that over 2500 men would also be told they have breast cancer and over 400 of them would also die? To me and the members of our team these statistics are unacceptable and that these losses to friends and families were just to much to sit back and not find a way to help.
This is why year after year I come begging for your hard earned money to help support me and this cause that means so much to so many.
This Year I will be walking 2 walks. During the weekend of Sept 28th through the 30th in Philadelphia and again in Nov on the 16th through the 18th I will once again be walking 60 miles with members of my family and our team of women and men and many others as we show that we are there, we are walking and that we are not giving up to this disease. Between now and then I will be training to be ready for this, and trying to raise as much money as I can. To do this walk I am required to raise a minimum of $2300.00 for each walk, but I am setting my personal goal higher because I know it’s needed. I have seen the lives that have been saved and the advancements in treatments that have been discovered by your generous donations and I cannot thank you enough for your support.
As many of you know I fought my own battle with another cancer, and I struggled at times, but my desire never wavered. I still hope for a cure not only for breast cancer but for all cancers that destroy families. As always I will do all I can and your donations are tax deductable, so please help me to continue my journey with what you can afford, and thank you.
