I decided to take on an incredible challenge for a fourth time. On November 16, 17, and 18th. I’ll be walking 60 miles over the course of those three days, camping out at night with thousands of other women and men taking this journey with me. I have been training for this walk over the last few months. The Breast Cancer 3-Day benefits Susan G. Komen for the cure. Every advancement in breast cancer research, treatment, education, and prevention in the last 25 years has been touched by a Komen for the Cure grant. They are working hard to build a future without breast cancer, and I plan on raising $2300 to help bring us closer to that goal.
As many of you are well aware, my mother in law (Carol) was diagnosed in October of 1997. She fought the disease with surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation, and stem cell transplant. She was cancer free for 5 years following all her treatments, then the cancer returned. She lost her battle with this horrible disease September 18, 2004. Carol, always wanted so many grandchildren, and was unable to enjoy hers because of breast cancer. We all miss her everyday and wish there was a cure for this horrible disease. Without a cure, one in eight women in the U.S. will continue to be diagnosed with breast cancer. My Aunt Diane was diagnosed with breast cancer 4 years ago and has been cancer free after going through chemotherapy and radiation. Over the last 3 years, I have had either a friend or a family member hear the words no one ever wants to hear, “You have breast cancer.” I don’t want anyone to have to hear those words.
Nearly everyone knows at least one, and unfortunately some of us know too many that have been affected by this disease or another cancer. I will join my friend, Sallie, a breast cancer survivor on her team to walk. I am walking in memory of my mother in law, and in honor of Sallie, my aunt Diane, my cousin, several of my friends and so many more. Please consider making a donation of any amount you possibly can and let me know if you have someone you would like me to walk in honor or in memory. You can donate online at www.the3day.org, click on donate now then search my name (Jannah Linneman) under participant or send a check to me (1741 248th St., Lomita, CA 90717) or directly to Komen with the enclosed donation form. If you could please donate by November 1. Thanks for taking the time to read my letter~
