Can you believe 2018 is the 15th anniversary of my 1st 3-Day, 60-Mile Walk?
I took the first of many steps back in 2003. It so happens that 2003 was the first year Susan G. Komen took on the 3-Day event. San Diego was one of only three cities with a 3-Day event in 2003.
I had moved back to my beloved San Diego in January of that year. That was the first of many "meant-to-be" moments.
My sister, Terry, was my motivation for signing up for that 1st Walk. Her breast cancer diagnosis shoved me off the couch and on to the San Diego 3-Day route. I am happy to report Terry is still going strong as a survivor.
My next "meant-to-be-moment" was a chance encounter with the sister-in-law of a long-time work colleague. It was at that 1st Walk in 2003 where I met the beautiful women who became my teammates and so much more. We formed the Fight Like A Girl team, and after celebrating our 10th anniversary at Lake Tahoe, we changed our name to the Pink Tahoe Ladies.
We have three breast cancer survivors on our team, as well as family and friends. They each hold a special place in my heart. Together we walk to help find a cure for cancer.
Cancer isn't done yet and neither am I.
My contributors round out my circle of support. Many of them have been with me from the 1st walk through today. Their generosity and spirit of giving humble me. I am so grateful to all of you.
As long as this Old Lady Walking body will carry me, I am walking 60 miles in 3 days with the hope we find a cure for cancer soon. If you can donate to help me continue this journey of the heart, I would be very appreciative.
