Taking positive action to make a difference in this world is what I try to make my life all about. Please join me in making a difference by donating to my 5th walk to help cure breast cancer.
This year I am joining my dear friend and fellow walker, Charlie, as he embarks on his 13th walk in a row!!!! This will be my 5th walk since I made it through breast cancer treatment in 2004.
And it will be my best friend Ingrid's second walk -- her first was just before her successful kidney transplant in 2010. She will travel from N.C. to join the team.
I am so grateful to find myself 14 years down the road from my diagnosis still healthy, happy to be alive, thriving, parenting my 17-year-old son, and teaching a passel o' third graders at an international school in Germany. All because of research helped by people who donated to organizations like the 3 Day through walkers like us.
To top it all off, medical science saved my husband's life this year, when he had a successful stem cell transplant. His condition was very rare -- no walks to help cure it -- but it is with awe and respect that I also offer this walk in thanks to both his doctors and to my husband himself -- he remained strong and positive throughout the grueling treatment and recovery. His courage reminded me of my own journey, and prompted me to walk again to help others in this way, a way that I can help.
The 3 Day for the Cure fundraising also helps support services for women who cannot afford mammograms and screening. This is something I believe in, too.
We can't do it all, but we can all do something. From now until September 2018, this is my something. In gratitude for being a survivor, and in memory of all those, men and women, old and young, who have been lost to this disease and other diseases. May medical treatment continue to improve and save more lives each year!
You can make this part of your something too.
Please support me with any size donation as Charlie, Ingrid and I join together again to help end breast cancer, and make the world a better place.
