This year I will be walking for:
Debbie Richardson Wilson
It hurt so much to have to take a year off, but I'm ready to get back in the saddle. This will be my 9th walk, miles 480-540 ~ not including training walks. My feet hurt just thinking about that. I hope they hold up.
Why do I walk? It first started because I wanted to get out in the community and do something fun and give back. What an amazing experience. Watching all the women cross the finish line and just the look of joy on their faces. The sense of community they had. I wanted that. Then, I found out a few friends from school had been diagnosed. Now I know I have to walk. I need to raise money so they can see their kids grow up. Sadly, for a few, that will never happen. Along the way, I have lost friends to breast cancer. It saddens me to think that could be me. I could be leaving my children without a mother. I don't want that to happen to anyone else. Then I was diagnosed. So now I must keep going.
I have met the most amazing women in my 10 year journey (and a few amazingly cool guys as well! How they ever think they look sexy in a bra or spandex is beyond me, but hey, go for it! Who am I to judge! Besides, it adds a little spice, right?) This is the most filling part of the 3 day. The people you meet. The lives you touch. Everyone walks for their own reason. For that one special person. This year, I will be walking for EVERYONE. Because everyone deserves a lifetime.
I love my 3 day family so much. It's ever changing. Some stay and some go. It's not for everyone. But it's for me. And I wouldn't change that for the world. So please, as I begin my begging for the 10th year in a row, won't you just offer up $5 to help me reach my goals? It's easy and just takes a minute. And it will mean the world to me.
If you have lost someone to breast cancer, and would like me to carry their names this year, please indicate so when you make your donation.
If you can't help, could you please share my link on your page? Maybe someone you know has someone who was touched by Cancer and would like to help.
