Please support me as I take on an incredible challenge to make an impact in the fight to end breast cancer. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day® isn’t just a 60-mile walk over the course of three days—it’s a journey to the end of breast cancer. In 2016, Komen announced a Bold Goal—to reduce the current number of breast cancer deaths by 50% in the U.S. by 2026. That’s why I’m walking, and raising money—to make that goal a reality.
2018 is going to be a great year for lots of reasons. I'm heading into it with a positive additude, a grateful spirit and lots of enthusiasm.
I'm also walking 120 miles this year, in September in Philadelphia and in November in San Diego. Walks #30 and 31 since I started in 2006.
Last year I crewed in Seattle and was the 2nd highest fundraiser. Because of your generosity, together we raised over $6,201. Being just a little bit competitive, I'm raising my total this year to exceed that figure. I also received a letter congratulating me on my lifetime total of over $76.622! Thank YOU for helping me reach those goals. To top it off, I was notified, as the team captain of A String of Pearls, that our team's lifetime fundraising total is just over $232.124 in 4 short years. Yay team!
These actions are critical to Komen and achieving our Bold Goal: to reduce the current number of breast cancer deaths by 50% in the U.S. by 2026. This goal is focused on funding groundbreaking research for aggressive forms of breast cancer and reaching health equity in under-served communities. It is unacceptable that more than 154,000 women in the U.S. are living with metastatic breast cancer and that African-American women in the U.S. are more likely to die of breast cancer than Caucasian women.
All year long we advocate, train and fundraise on behalf of Komen. With your help, over the last 15 years the 3-Day family has raised more than $820 million helping support more than 2,500 research projects and more than 460 clinical trials. But we are not done. This is not enough. We need to continue this fight until our Bold Goal becomes a reality and we can do it without you. We will NEVER give up!
Again, I want to express my sincere appreciation to you for believing in my goals and for being More Than Pink!
With sincere gratitude,
