I'm asked all the time. . . Why do you keep walking with this year being walk #7&8?
I started walking because Breast Cancer hit close to home. My aunt was diagnosed and beat Stage 3. While she was fighting I found out that my Great Aunt Dot lost her battle in 1962 long before current modern medicine. She was only 30 and left behind a husband & 2 kids.
In 2013 I met Amy Zandomenego-Sub and Peanut Butta. She owned a teddy bear and was determined to get it to all of the 14 cities that year even if she couldn't make it there herself. That bear got to 13 of the 14 cities by the help of us walking that year and I had the honor of carrying Peanut Butta on Day 3 in Philly when I ran into her at Pit 2. We laughed, cried, hugged and talked that day after she waiting in the pouring rain, feeling horrible with the side effects of medicine while trying to beat Stage 4 breast cancer. I was heart broken to hear that 2 months later she lost her battle. I walk now for her 2 kids.
I walk for the Survivors & Fighters on my team and those that I have met in the last 5 years of doing this event. They have taught me what's important in life. Life is too short and you need to focus on the positive!! Sharon, Terri, Anne, Vivian, Donna, Cherill, Dr. Sheri, Sandi and anyone who I've been blessed to meet over the years.
I walk so that 18 year old Jenny on my team who found out she is BRCA positive won't fight this alone. She can focus on being a student in college and enjoy life & being in college. Not to worry about how cancer will impact her future.
I walk for my Big Brother Kristine in KKY, who has beat Stage 3 breast cancer. You got this girl!!
I walk for TBS sister Becky who is going through treatment now. We got you girl!!
I walk for Jeremy's Mom who lost her battle too soon.
I walk for Brandon's Mom who beat it.
I walk for my friend Crystal who beat this!!
I walk for Kentucky, who lost his mother.
*****I'll keep walking as long as it takes**** Won't you join me this year??
