Seven years ago I began an amazing journey. My destination? Finding a cure for breast cancer. My donors were in my thoughts every step of my life-changing 60 mile adventure, and the experience was so extraordinary that I am determined to do it again!
My journey consists of walking in the Komen 3-Day 60 mile walk to raise money to help end Breast Cancer. I will walk this year on Friday 8/3, Saturday 8/4, and Sunday 8/5. Over those 3 days we (myself and about 1000 other walkers) will cover 60 miles walking through and around the Novi, Michigan area. What we do as walkers is we get people to donate to the Komen foundation in support of the walkers. When you donate you are donating to my walk, it is not just a nameless donation. I have done the walk the last 7 years. It is probably the hardest thing that I have done at this point in my life yet it is one of the most enjoyable and rewarding events I have ever been a part of. Each walker is required to raise a minimum of $2300.00 to participate in the walk with the hope being that they raise more than that.
I have had some people ask me why I would be doing a walk like this in light of the difficulty and the pains that it causes. The reason I do this walk each year is really very simple to explain; I have known several women over the years that I was friends with, related to or worked with who were effected by this terrible Cancer and I am a huge believer in Karma. I feel that my doing this walk creates good Karma for the women very close to me in my life. Now, I am not asking anyone to join me in walking to create their own good Karma but if you feel that you could help in the fight against Breast Cancer and feel that Karma is real; please donate to my walk. Without you, what I am doing is simply going for a very long walk. With you, we are making a difference.
You have been there for me with your donations and support in past years, and I am asking you to donate again because the battle continues. Every 74 seconds, somewhere in the world, someone dies from breast cancer – a sobering statistic and one that I believe we can reduce.
I am sure each and every one of you knows someone whose life has been affected by cancer. The best way we can make a difference is to raise awareness – with thousands of Komen 3-Day walkers nationwide bring attention to this cause - and to provide the monetary support necessary for research, education and treatment. That’s why I am reaching out to you again. My goal this year is to not only meet my $2300 fundraising requirement, but to exceed it! Your donation benefits Susan G. Komen®, the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world. Consider this your annual donation that is making a real difference and saving lives!
