Dear Friends and Family,
Last year my BFF NIKKI called me and said "You're doing it with me." That's how I got started on this "Pink" journey. Now I am hooked! Walking last year changed my life and I realized I was able to be a small part of changing other people's lives as well! Please help me accomplish my goal and be part of this "Pink" journey too!!
Every participant has a reason for committing to this walk. Here is my story....
Flashback to 1997 when my Mom at age 42 was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was just 19 years old. Wow that was tough. She had Stage III breast cancer and the mastectomy and chemo were pretty brutal. She was not a candidate for the only oral medication available (tamoxifen) and none of us knew if she would survive. In those days only half of women survived even five years. But guess what? My Mom is TOUGH. She had no health insurance, unable to do reconstruction after the mastectomy because it was considered "cosmetic", and had to sew her own bras to accommodate a breast prosthesis. Our small town, Monahans, outside of Odessa banded together to pay for the chemo treatments. They had barbecues to raise money and the doctor donated his services. I am still humbled by their efforts and I am PROUD to say my Mom is a 20 year survivor!!!
Last I had my own scare with an abnormal mammogram. It was not cancer, but I've got to tell you it scared the crap out of me! I'm not sitting on the sidelines any longer. So now it's my turn to give back. I will walk 60 miles in 3 days, camp out in a pink tent, and use port-o-potties all to support breast cancer. Here's where you come in. My goal is to raise $2300. Please give me the name of someone you know who has had cancer and donate in honor of them by clicking on the link below. I'll keep you updated, and together we can make a difference.
