This will be my first Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk and it has heavily impacted my life
since Cancer touched two of our loved ones in my family. So, I have accepted the biggest
challenge of my life and this is the hardest journey I have ever made. I have two awesome
and amazing Aunt's that are faithfully involved in the 3-Day and are a part of 'TEAM STEPS'
since 2011. My Aunt Pat Ramirez is a 6 year walker and truly believes in hope for the future
and will continue the fight until they find a cure. My Aunt Grace Vasquez is unable to participate
those long walks due to an injury to her lower back so, she's been 'TEAM STEPS' Walker Stalker
since 2012 and she is there to support her team throughtout their training and the entire the 3-Day
event because she loves and admires her team mates! Her motto is: "I will be there to support
them because without our walkers we wouldn't have a voice and hope for the future and with the
funds they raise we can find a cure!!!" So throughtout the years of hearing my Aunt's talking how
amazing the 3-Day was, I decided that I had several reasons for doing this. Therefore, I walk on
behalf: In loving memory of my Aunt Diana V. Longoria, who succumbed to Breast Cancer at the
age of 58. She was diagnosed with the aggressive cancer on February 2002 and lost her battle
with cancer in August in 2004. For my baby brother Shaun DeLeon, who succumbed to Brain
Cancer at the tender age of 7. He was diagnosed with a tumor to his brain stem in September
1992 and lost his battle with cancer in May 1993. He is always close to my heart. And for my
Aunt Pat's sister Joann Moreno, in her honor. She was diagnosed with Ductal Carcinoma in
situ (DCIS) in November 2010 and had a mastectomy in January 2011. I honestly believe a
cure for one type of cancer will lead to the cure for all types...I will continue to believe and
hope to raise funds for research to help save all lives of those battling this dreadful disease.
Each walker who participates must raise a minimum of $2,300 before the event begins the
first weekend in November.
The Susan G. Komen 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. Net proceeds help
pay for vital global breast cancer research and local community programs supporting education,
screening and treatment. Please make your tax deductible donation today!
Thank you from the bottom
of my heart,
