Please support me as I take on an incredible challenge to make an impact in the fight to end breast cancer. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day® isn’t just a 60-mile walk over the course of three days—it’s a journey to the end of breast cancer. In 2016, Komen announced a Bold Goal—to reduce the current number of breast cancer deaths by 50% in the U.S. by 2026. That’s why I’m walking, and raising money—to make that goal a reality.
I was 32 weeks pregnant with our second baby when I felt the lump in my left breast. I had three needle aspirations with no conclusion. Went for a diagnostic sonogram and was told that it was nothing to worry about but should follow up with a needle biopsy to rule everything out. The biopsy proved to be cancer. Stage 2B cancer. That’s hard to swallow being pregnant!!! I was diagnosed with a very aggressive breast cancer that affects 1 in every 36,000 women. Genetic testing proved that I carried the mutated gene that has shown to bring on cancer in the opposing breast and would lead to ovarian cancer. Decisions were made…had my left breast removed, delivered our baby early and then my chemotherapy began followed by my right breast being removed and then a hysterectomy.
Bring you to present day, our son is now 12 and I am a very proud survivor!!! I don’t think that I would be here today if it weren’t for the research and medical knowledge of those that assisted me along the way. If I learned anything along the way, it was to pay it forward!
