Please support me as I take on an incredible challenge. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day® isn’t just a 60-mile walk over the course of three days—it’s a journey to the end of breast cancer. Seventy-five percent of the net proceeds raised by the 3-Day® help support Komen’s Research and Training Grant Program and large public health outreach programs for women and men facing breast cancer. The remaining 25 percent helps fund local community and Affiliate support and outreach programs.
In 2017, I walked in two Susan G Komen 3-Day® events: Dallas-Fort Worth and then 2 weeks later in San Diego. In 2018, I'll be at both events again. I can't help it; there is still no cure for breast cancer. This is my tenth and eleventh events. I am very proud of the money I have raised, but I can't stop there. Two hundred thousand women and men in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. Forty thousand will not survive. One in eight women will be diagnosed with cancer in their life time.
It is hard to believe that I started this journey in 2010. My sense of urgency became all too real when in 2012 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was among the fortunate who with early diagnosis and subsequent treatment was able to fight back and win!
This year marks my 63rd birthday (wait when did I get that old?) and will celebrate 6 years being cancer free June 12th. This walk is for my children, my grandchildren, my great-grandchild, my sister, my brothers, nieces, sisters-in law, aunts, cousins, friends, and co-workers. Why walk? Because I love you all, I have chosen to do my part.
My mom supported my efforts and we lost her in early December, 2016. I am honoring her in both of my walks and on training walks. I lost a dear friend/classmate in 2017 and learned of another young woman who received the diagnosis. A CURE MUST BE FOUND SOON.
I have a long way to go to reach my goal of $4,600. Please take this opportunity to support me and advocate for the health of women and men that are important to you and have touched your life. I'll be thinking of you every step of the way as I train and walk in all types of weather (freezing cold, sweltering heat, rain and even sunny days).
I could not be here if it was not for each of you, my generous donors and supporters. Each of you is a member of my team as much as those that are physically walking with me. In the past six years I have raised over $22,000. Thank you! Words cannot convey how much I truly appreciate your support. You are with me with every step I take.
Donations in any amount are appreciated and can be made at http://www.the3day.org/goto/mlbeniak2018.
Thank you for your continued support.
