When I first started walking the 3-Day back in 2009 it was because I had friends that had lost their battle to breast cancer. Only one of these people actually had a good health insurance plan. The others had either very little or no insurance coverage. I wanted to make sure that there was money for research and even more importantly money for testing and medical care for those with few resources and no insurance.
As a two time cancer survivor, Hodgkin's Lymphoma 1989-1990 and Breast Cancer 2017, I continue to walk to ensure that people are educated on the importance of self exams, regular doctor appointments and to ensure all women have access mammograms.
