In 2008, just in time for my birthday, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was surreal; everything happened so fast and important life changing decisions had to be made in an instant. The worst part was the impact on my family; I'm sure this time was harder for them than for me.
Happily, after 2 surgeries and chemo I was pronounced cancer free before Christmas that year. What a wonderful gift!
The following year, my girlfriend suggested that we walk the 60 mile, Susan G. Komen 3-Day which raises money for breast cancer research, education and services.
That first 3 Day walk was empowering: breast cancer was not going to define me, I was not a victim I could walk 60 miles in 3 days. I could do it! I did do it And I plan to keep doing it – walking and raising money – until we have a cure.
2018 is my 10th year to walk the 3DAY. Christmas of 2018 will be my 10-year CANCER FREE anniversary!! To celebrate this milestone I hope to raise $10,000 to fund breast cancer research. I plan to participate in 3 walks - that's 180 miles - and it's nothing compared to a diagnosis and treatment for cancer.
Please support me in this challenge to make an impact in the fight to end breast cancer.
Any donation is appreciated. Many employers will match charitable donations - a huge bonus. You can spread your donation over several months. too. (ha-ha ... sounds like the TV ... just 4 easy payments.)
Finally, may I walk in honor or in memory of a friend, family member or loved one? Please send me their name so I may carry them with me on my journeys. OR, join my team - see the pink button on this page, and walk with me!
Thank you for the prayers and support.
